On Tuesday, the state Cabinet approved a proposal to entrust the task of conducting a survey and raising awareness about the benefits of the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, which is designed to support orphans, to the Tarpan Foundation. This foundation is an NGO associated with BJP MLC Shrikant Bhartiya, who previously served as the Officer on Special Duty for then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis from 2014 to 2019.
As per the Cabinet decision, the Tarpan Foundation will collect data on orphans across the state through a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving the social justice and revenue departments. The foundation will not receive any financial compensation for its services, and it is prohibited from sharing the collected data with any third party. The initial MoU will span five years, after which the arrangement will undergo a review, and a decision on its extension will be made.
